Bill C-33 Second Reading

I am pleased to inform you that Bill C-33, containing important amendments to the Railway Safety Act, received Second Reading in the House of Commons on December 8, 2010, and was referred to the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities for review.

The 2008 reports of the Railway Safety Act review and the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities study on rail safety made a total of 70 recommendations to improve rail safety in Canada. Bill C-33 addresses recommendations that require legislative changes to the Act.
