A parked Via Rail passenger train
was struck by a slow-moving CN freight train Tuesday at the train
station in Jasper, Alta.
"There were two passengers that were on the one car that was struck.
Those two passengers were checked out immediately by the ambulance
that were at the scene and they were cleared with no injuries," said
Via spokeswoman Catherine Kaloutsky.
A member of the crew was treated for shock.
The Vancouver-bound Via train was on a planned 1½-hour station stop
in Jasper on Tuesday afternoon when the freight train rolled into
the back of it.
Not all of the train's 270 passengers were on board at the time. The
train was also carrying 27 crew members and two engineers.
The cars were being inspected to determine the extent of the damage.
Passengers started boarding the train around 5:30 p.m. MT. The train
normally leaves Jasper at 2:30 p.m.
CN and Via will both investigate the crash.
