An
eastbound CN freight train derailed east of Colborne
around 7:30 a.m. this morning (Saturday, March 21).
Four rail cars are involved at the scene at Blyth
Park Road. One tanker car containing flammable
material is on its side but is not leaking.
Northumberland OPP units, Cramahe Township Fire
department and the CN Police are on scene
Two of the four cars were empty flatbeds and two
were tankers carrying a flammable liquid called
Naphthalene. The tankers were not ruptured and are
not leaking. Both tankers have been stabilized by
the fire department.
A large backhoe was being unloaded for cleanup work
at 9:15 a.m.
The scene is contained and poses no danger to the
public.
There are no injuries and no evacuation of the area
is required.
Two rail lines on the busy Montreal to Toronto
corridor are closed as cleanup work proceeds.
