of a train derailment in central Alberta.
RCMP say a CN Rail train collided with a double load gravel truck
around 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon just north of Bashaw.
The truck driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The train is approximately 2.5 miles in length and at this time
there are two derailments. One resulted in a cargo spillage of feed
pellets in a grassy area in the townsite.
The second derailment involves empty metal cargo cars. There are no
dangerous goods involved and no danger to the public.
There are two highways affected by this incident. Highway 21 north
and south of Bashaw and Highway 53 at the Town of Bashaw.
A number of agencies are presently on the scene including Alberta
Transportation, Ledcor, Alberta Emergency Management, Integrated
Traffic Unit, Ponoka RCMP, Stettler RCMP, Camrose RCMP and Bashaw
RCMP.
The highways are expected to be closed for several hours.
