The negotiation team for our members at Via Rail are proud to announce that contract negotiations have concluded with the carrier.
Our current agreement expired on January 1st of this year, and we were able to ratify it in February. This included many work/life balance improvements and increases in benefits and payments. Our wage and pension demands were brought to arbitration in August, and we were very pleased with the Arbitrators decision.
The bargaining team would like to express our thanks to the membership for your support throughout the entire bargaining process and for the strong endorsement and ratification of the changes to the Collective Agreement. Also, thank you to the TCRC National office for its support and resources throughout the bargaining process and to our excellent legal counsel and pension actuaries for their support and skill presenting the briefs at arbitration to achieve this important decision.
This three-year agreement moves the needle forward on some important issues and we look forward to building on it in the future.
